Francesca's

This store is in Orland Square Mall and is called Francesca's. It is more of a boutique inside of the mall. This window might seem crowded to some, but I think that it does a really good job of displaying the merchandise. There are many different levels of this window that draw in the eye. This is one of those windows you walk by and think"that's so cute. I need that". That is probably what they are trying to do when designing this window. They do an effective job of displaying anything they sell. It's not just clothes or just shoes. It's clothes and shoes and jewelry and bags and accessories. The colors are subtle but are effective towrds emphasis.

Love Culture

Love Culture is a new store that was very recently added in Orland Square Mall. These windows are a lot like thie windows from Forever. The background of the store is bright and white and clean. This makes the displays easier to see. I really like this winodw. It does a really good job with almost all principles of design; balance, proportion, rhythm, emphsis, and unity. This display has very good rhythm. It's almost like a little set. Everything goes together and is proportionate to the window and each other. The emphasis is the color. This store is so colorful when you enter and that is definitely what they are trying to sell.

Pac Sun

This window is from PacSun. Although I love the little display triangle, it is a bit hard to see. It is definitely something cute and original. It involves a lot of creativity and thought. This is one of those windows where it is hard to see because of the background of the store. The posters may be advertising things that arebeing sold, but they are distrcting and taking away from the actual product in the window. There really was no balance in this window. The displays are pretty scattered and theres no set place for anything really.

Forever 21 (March)

This winow is from Forever 21 in Orland Square Mall. They have threeseparate windows. One on either side of the entance, and this one on the jewelry side. Even thought this window is not separate from the store, I think they do a good job of highlighting the window. Since the displays are up higher and away from the floor, and the fact that they have their own light supply, I think this winodw stands out a lot. Forever is very good with their colors in the windows. They always put outbright colors to catch the eye of someone walking by. I also like that they add in small stands to display smaller items like shoes or jewelry.

H & M

In Orland Square Mall, H & M has almost an entire wall of windows. A lot of times, the window has displays all the way down. In this particular window they centered the display and kept the side clean and white. The window catches the customers attention with the oversize poster in the back and then the shorter, darker mannequins in the front. I really like the windows here because of the white background. I like windows that section off from the store because they are easier to see and they draw attention better than windows with noe backgroung. those windows just blend into the store and become quite boring. This winodw does a very good job with the poster being the emphasis, showing that they are promoting the sale of this item.

Express

When I think of Express, I think of great window displays. Their windows are surrounded in a big red box and always have a large poster in the back of them like an advertisement. Then they had mannequins in front of that who display their clothing. They are placed on stands so that some of them are taller than others. This helps the effectiveness of the balance. In this particular window, they have a sale sign displayed at the bottom. They normally place larger ones in the front of the door, so thats why I would say this one is so small.

Buckle

This window is at Buckle. I think it happens to be very effective. To some, it might seem a bit crowded, but I think it is just right. Not only are they displaying clothes, they have shoes, jewelrry, bags and more. Most stores just put out their clothes and don't think to add anything else. This one has it all. Most of the time, we, as customers, don't realize all of the items a store can have inside them when they are only showing clothing in the windows. So this one does a very effective job of showing off all merchandise items. In the case of the principles of design, it does fit into proportion and balance. The height of the sign to the mannequins to the table to the floor, it draws the eye from top to bottom and back up again.

Justice

This window happens to be from justice. They have two different windows to advertise in. This small one and another very large one. I thought this one was more effective than the large one. Because this store has so much merchandise and most of it is very colorful and bright, it happens to be very distracting. They do not separate the rest of the store from the window display so it is hard to see anything when you are glancing around the wall at the windows. This window at least has a poster and makes the displays a bit more visible than the other window. The do however, have very good signage. There are always big red signs in the windows and in front of the store to advertise all the sales that are going on. This is probably one of the only things that draw people onto the store.

The Gap

The Gap displays this window on the side of the store. I thought this to be a very interesting technique. They have two windows in front of the store but they choose to advertise this on the side. But then I thought, this is a good idea. The side of the store is in the hall where people enter the mall. So one of the first things they see is this window. It isdrawing them in before they are even prepared to shop. It is very simple and eye catching. They are advertising what they are known for with a little twist of color. It's not distracting of too crazy, it;s just there. Very balanced and proportional.

The Limited

This window is very simplistic. It is from the Limited. I think they do a very good job of using proportion as a design principle. This is a very large window and displays could get lost easily. By putting a large sign behind the displays, they areessentially making the space smaller and pulling your attention in from the sides to the middle. They are also encouraging buying with their signage. By using the frase "Miss Match", they are basically saying the trend is in so people willbuy more and spend more. I love the colors as well. The large orange and blue draws a lot of attention and would makeme want to go in.

Rue 21

This window is from one of my favoritestores in Eastland Mall, Rue 21. The windowdisplays are always effective. They use a large wall hanging picture to separate the store from the window display. They also use a sale sign to draw the customer into the store. The lettering of SALE is very large and right at the front of the window. This draws attention and can encourage people wandering by to enter the store. It also helps that they are displayingthe items that are on sale. upon entering the store, there are small displays everywhere around the register. All of these little things can helpto promotebuying.

MC Sports

Thiswindow is from a sporting goods store. It is very simplistic and get straight to the point. When you're going to a sports store you don't want to see all kinds of complicated products and displays. It displays merchandise very well and uses the design principle of balance. Since theres no window box to separate the display from the store, they incorporate the displays well into the surroundings.

The Mole Hole

I chose this window at The Mole Hole because it was very cute. I had never seen this store before and this window made me want to go in. The window was like those books they used to have when I was a kid, the eye spy books. I wantedto stare at all the little things in the window and see what I could find. And because the window intrigued me, I wanted to go in to see what else I could find in the store. Although this window does not have a specific purpose, it draws the customer in. I thought it was a very clever idea. There are items for all ages in the store and in the window soit enables them to have a very large market and get the attantion of anyone.
